Jakarta. Dozens of Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel and police officers were rushed to the Navy Hospital in Central Jakarta after a naval ammunitions storehouse exploded at Tanjug Priok Port on Wednesday morning.
The storehouse exploded at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, sending a thick plume of black smoke into the air, Indonesian Military (TNI) spokesman Rear Admiral Iskandar Sitompul said. The cause of the explosion, and the true tall of injured soldiers remained unknown on Wednesday afternoon.
“At the moment 25 people have been injured,” Iskandar said. ”All of them are from the TNI, there are no civilian victims.”
At least 150 Naval personnel were on-duty in the vicinity of the blast Wednesday morning. Members of the Jakarta Police Water Police Directorate were also stationed nearby. The total number of people injured, Iskandar said, is likely to grow.
There were no reports of casualties.
No one died,” Iskandar said. “All the victims have been admitted to the Navy Hospital in Benhil.”
The blast is being investigated by the Indonesian Navy, he said.
