Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo spent Friday morning with two unusual guests: MotoGP champions Valentino Rossi of Italy and Jorge Lorenzo of Spain.
Lorenzo arrived at the governor’s official residence early in the morning, after which the two of them, along with an entourage, got ready to bike to City Hall.
The departure was delayed by rain for about half an hour.
After the rain stopped, Jokowi, Lorenzo and company headed for City Hall, causing a media frenzy.
Upon arrival at City Hall, the entourage had breakfast together and chatted while waiting for Rossi, who had just landed in Jakarta at that time.
“I arrived just now, so no cycling for me this time,” Rossi told a press conference at City Hall.
Lorenzo said he had a great time biking with the number one person in Jakarta.
“It’s great to be here for the 10th time and to share this morning with the governor of Jakarta, cycling,” he said, adding that “he wasn’t very fast so I didn’t get too tired”.
Jokowi said that biking to City Hall was aimed at promoting environmentally friendly transportation.
Rossi shared the sentiment, saying “I love people who bike.”
When asked whether he preferred a bicycle to a motorcycle, Rossi answered “no, I still prefer motorcycle, though,” with a laugh.
Valentino Rossi is a multiple MotoGP World Champion, dubbed one of the most successful motorcycle racers of all time, with nine Grand Prix World Championships to his name, seven of them in the premier class.
Lorenzo won the 2010 and 2012 MotoGP World Champion and currently competes in the MotoGP class, riding for the Yamaha team. The Jakarta Post
